If you’re still loyal to the Bulgarian Black Sea coast and haven’t joined the many tourists who now prefer Greece or Turkey over our resorts, we suggest heading to the southern seaside destinations. One of them is the village of Lozenets, located about 65 kilometers south of Burgas, and it offers something for everyone.
Most tourists choose aparthotels or hotels in Lozenets, as the tourist infrastructure has developed significantly in recent years, offering excellent accommodation options. The resort is a favorite not only among many Bulgarians who return every year but also among foreigners and even members of the local elite—famous musicians, performers, athletes, and more who find their special spot in Lozenets.
If during your summer vacation you’re looking for something a bit different and want to explore something interesting, we recommend visiting the open-air museum called The Ship Goryanin, located less than a kilometer from Lozenets. The attraction is situated in the center of the seaside town of Tsarevo, right next to the community center named Georgi Kondolov.
Established in 2008, the museum presents the history of shipbuilding in the region through information boards, photos, and artifacts. Goryanin was the first wooden ship built in the local shipyard. It was launched in 1947 and was initially used for transporting cargo, later serving as a training vessel.
After some time, it was turned into a themed restaurant. Unfortunately, in 1993, the ship sank. It remained at the bottom of the sea for 12 years until its remains were recovered and placed in the museum.
It is definitely worth visiting and learning more about the local shipbuilding history—even just for general knowledge. So, we encourage you to find a bit of time and explore this remarkable place, which offers a glimpse into times gone by.
